Since 2017, Arnika cooperates with Kiev based NGO Ekodiya on strenghtening civil society in the Ukrainian countryside. One of the tools, which should attract more people and persuade them to take care about their surroundings, is a photocontest called "Postcard from the village," which was launched in June and expects its peak by the end of the summer-time.
The contest invites both professional and amateur photographers to share their photo stories about the life in the modern villages: What are the challenges and opportunities? What should be done to make change happen in rural areas and how? Through stories, personal situations, and experiences, participants show environmental and social transformation of rural areas in Ukraine.
"Postcard from the Village" presents two major categories for photo stories submission:
- “In the shadow of industrial farm” – expecting to see environmental and social consequences for rural communities who have industrial agriculture facilities as a neighbour.
- “Life of small farm”- expecting to see examples of environmentally, socially sustainable, economically viable family farms and other enterprises in villages.
To participate in the contest, one should submit thematic photo with short text describing the story behind it either to the Instagram marking @rural_ua and #справжнєсело (= real village), or via e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
By mid-August, there will be 20 best works selected for thematic exhibition in September and top- 5 contestants will be rewarded with prizes and gift-certificates for educational programs at Green School.
